Preventing summer learning loss
Many parents worry that their children will lose ground in basic school subjects during the summer — and, in fact, educational research shows that summer learning loss is a reality for most children and an especially significant problem for children in low-income families.
So, what can you do to make sure your child doesn’t fall into that backward slide over the summer? Marti joined Pat Evans on KARE 11 Today with some thoughts on how to keep your child learning and having fun – and without breaking the bank.
1. Read, read, read!
2. Seize the learning opportunities in everyday activities.
3. Follow (and join in!) your child’s natural curiosity.
4. Play games that involve math facts or spelling.
5. Keep a summer journal.
