Put a stop to bullying, embrace the holidays

Weeks after the 2016 Presidential Election, many parents are still struggling with the aftermath. The bad campaign behavior has spurred a surge in hate speech and bullying in schools and elsewhere. Much of the bullying is focused on race, ethnicity or gender.

However, the holidays are a great time to “reset” and establish respect and acceptance for others. Marti shared with KARE 11 News at 11‘s Bryan Piatt these practical tips for parents on how to begin:

1) Ask your children what’s been happening at school since the presidential campaign

2) Find out what the school policy and procedures are about bullying

3) Talk about what your children should do if they see or experience bullying

4) Familiarize yourself and your children with groups that are being targeted

Thanks, Holly! Yes, these are such difficult times and it’s hard to know what to do or say. Your support and encouragement means a lot! (My apologies for such a late response; I was on an unplugged vacation with Ron — one way to cope!)

No apology needed, Marti. Glad you and Ron got away together and chilled… or should I say warmed?
